There are several laws and regulations related to the quality of drinking water. Some are in direct relation to backflow, others indirectly. We will make sure that you find the right way to protect your water.
Drinking water is our most important asset and is essential for all life. We need to constantly refill the body's stores of water for us to survive and feel good. Therefore, it is vital that everyone has access to clean water that can be used as drinking water without any health risks. To ensure drinking water quality all the way from distribution to consumption, drinking water must be protected against pollution by backflow of contaminated water or other harmful fluids. By following the law and apply the Swedish standard SS-EN 1717 with the requirements for backflow protection, quality of drinking water is guaranteed.
Both water supplier and the consumer, such as facility owner or trader, have different regulations to follow. The Food Act and the Product Liability Act are the rules that the water supplier must meet in order to supply drinking water. Water Supplier's rights to ensure the water supply is properly described in the Act on public water services as well as in the local supply conditions, ABVA, which joined subscribers have to follow. The perspective seen from consumers, such as property owners or traders for example, differ slightly. The Environmental Code, as applied in carrying out activities that may affect the environment, is written in general nature. Backflow protection is concretized in more detail in the Swedish National Board of Housing (BBR), to be followed at new construction. BBR also refers to standard SS-EN 1717. The standard is a complete description of how to analyze risk and how to choose protection for various drinking water connections.
